~October 6, 2026: Announcement of Paper Publication — “Determination of the Smallest Odd Number with Abundancy Index Exceeding 6″~
~Publication of Research Paper on the Smallest Odd 6- to 9-Abundant Numbers~
We are pleased to announce the publication of our research paper titled “Determination of the Smallest Odd Number with Abundancy Index Exceeding 6,” which compiles the discoveries previously announced on our school website: “The Smallest Odd 6-Abundant Number” (April 24, 2026) and “The Smallest Odd 7- to 9-Abundant Numbers” (June 10, 2026).
The research on the smallest odd 6-abundant number was conducted by Mathematics Group 1 of the 56th graduating class at Senboku High School (pictured from left: Yugo Nagamichi, Yusuke Yatera, Akihito Nakamoto, Shion Haruki, Kohei Yamashita, Koki Fujiwara, Ryota Sogo, and Yuta Uenishi). The subsequent discovery of the smallest odd 7- to 9-abundant numbers was an independent study by Yugo Nagamichi, the leader of Mathematics Group 1, who advanced the group’s initial work on the 6-abundant number.
While the smallest odd 2-abundant through 5-abundant numbers had been previously identified, any odd -abundant numbers for remained entirely unknown to the global mathematical community. The discoveries of the smallest odd 6- to 9-abundant numbers represent world-first achievements accomplished by students from our school.
Furthermore, Assistant Professor Hiroyuki Ogawa of the Graduate School of Science at Osaka University rigorously verified and validated the accuracy of our data and programs. He confirmed that the dataset of odd superabundant numbers up to the 20,686th term, as well as the smallest odd 7-, 8-, and 9-abundant numbers, were previously unknown and represent original, first-ever discoveries by Nagamichi and his colleagues.
During this verification process, Nagamichi’s original program was further refined, successfully generating a dataset of over 10 million odd superabundant numbers. This expanded dataset includes values up to the smallest odd 13-abundant number. This dataset is also published under the joint authorship of Yugo Nagamichi and Assistant Professor Hiroyuki Ogawa.
Acknowledgments
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Assistant Professor Hiroyuki Ogawa of the Graduate School of Science at Osaka University for his invaluable advice throughout the course of this research, as well as for graciously accepting our request to verify the computational data.
Regarding the dataset of over 10 million odd superabundant numbers, this data was achieved through the use of OCTOPUS at D3 Center, the University of Osaka.
